A short bike ride brings the group to Douglassville’s Ganshahawny Park where they eat a picnic lunch or dinner. After eating\, the group receives a brief introduction to kayaking from outfitter Take it Outdoors Adventures before paddling back to Pottstown along the Schuylkill River. Afterwards the group usually meets up for a bite to eat and some quality craft beer. If you don’t have a kayak\, rentals are available for only $25. Just reserve a kayak by 2 p.m. Tuesday and one will be provided for you. This is a great way to learn some basic kayaking and also meet friendly\, fun loving people. DESCRIPTION:TO REGISTER – send an email to info@takeitoutdoorsadventures.com \nIt’s very rare that the Perkiomen is runnable in July. However\, this is the lucky week! Those who have joined Take It Outdoors Adventures on the Perkiomen Creek before\, know what a great trip it is. A smaller waterway than what adventure group usually paddles this time of year\, the narrow woodlined banks make you feel isolated and offer a great chance to spot wildlife. Meanwhile the creek itself will keep you interested with its often riffles and many turns. A portage or two may be expected\, but are short and easily managed. \nTake it Outdoors Adventures will meet at the takeout point (Perkiomen Trail Parking Area on Rahn’s Rd) at 9:15am\, load boats and gear onto the trailer\, get into the van and head to the put-in. After several fun miles of paddling\, the group will stop for lunch near Spring Mountain\, then head back onto the water for another great paddle to the take out. \nCost; $55- includes: shuttle service\, on water guides with first aid certifications\, and logistics of trip. \nCost w/rental: $100- includes: all listed above plus kayak\, paddle and pfd. \nWhat to bring: a change of clothes in a dry bag\, a packed lunch\, plenty of water and a waterproof camera to take a few pictures.
