Ride for the River
September 29, 2018
The Annual Ride for the River will return for a third year on September 29! This year, in addition to the two ride distances featured, we will offer an optional hill challenge featuring a two-mile climb on a connecting trail.
Once again, Schuylkill River Greenways NHA and Sly Fox Brewery are teaming up to host Ride for the River, a beautiful bike ride on the Schuylkill River Trail in Berks County, and an opportunity to relax afterward with food, beer and eight hours of free music at the Sly Fox Can Jam Festival. Ride for the River benefits and highlights the Schuylkill River Trail. It is organized by the Schuylkill River Greenways in partnership with Sly Fox Brewery and will be held in conjunction with the Sly Fox Can Jam Festival, a popular free music festival. The ride includes snacks and water at rest stops, ride support and well-marked routes.
Rent a bike: New this year, we are adding the option to rent a bicycle for this fun ride if you don’t have one of your own to use. The cost of a bike rental is $40. To reserve a bike, contact Riverbend Cycles at email@example.com or call 484-539-9006. Just let them know you are seeking to rent a bike for the 2018 Ride for the River event. The bike will be ready for you at the start of the ride.
Two ride options (40 and 16 miles): Both rides begin and end at the Sly Fox Can Jam Festival, and take place primarily along the Schuylkill River Trail with several sections of on-road riding. Most of the ride is flat, along the crushed stone trail. The on-road sections feature some hills.
- 40-mile route: Ride extends from Pottstown to Reading Riverfront Park and back. This includes a 2.5 mile on-road section from Sly Fox Brewery to the Schuylkill River Trail. There is also a 4-mile on-road section of the Schuylkill River Trail that is along quiet back roads in Birdsboro.
- 16-mile route: The 16-mile route extends from Pottstown to Union Township Recreation Area. This includes a 2.5 mile on-road section from Sly Fox Brewery to the Schuylkill River Trail.
Free music, food & beer! All riders will receive a free voucher good for one meal and one 16 oz beer at the Sly Fox Can Jam music festival, featuring eight hours of free, live music (the drink ticket can be used for soda if preferred, or for participants under 21). There is one fully stocked rest stop on the 16-mile route, and two fully stocked rest stops on the 40-mile route. Free bike safety checks will be available before the ride, and ride support will be provided by BikeSport in Trappe.
